M'Toro Chamou M'Toro Chamou was born in Mayotte, in the Comoros archipelago. A singer-songwriter and guitarist, he is one of the emblematic figures of Mayotte music, with songs and messages that will leave their mark on Mayotte for generations into the future.
M'Toro’s unique voice, powerful texts, and guitar playing make him a very special artist. His style can be defined as m'godro rock: a mix of traditional rhythms with more modern influences such as folk, pop, rock and blues.
M'Toro means "brown", and the Watoro (plural of M'Toro) were the first slaves who refused and fought against slavery. This evocative name already speaks volumes about M'Toro as a revolutionary. Through his lyrics, he fights for his culture against the forces of globalisation. He denounces the manipulations, lies and problems of his archipelago. His songs are also hopeful, advocating unity and the need to live in harmony. Through his strong messages and melodies, M'Toro Chamou builds bridges between tradition and modernity, between Comoros and the rest of the world.
