Salif Keita is a living legend — a musical icon whose voice has carried the soul of Africa across continents and generations. Known globally as “The Golden Voice of Africa,” Salif Keita has spent over five decades crafting a sound that is both deeply rooted in Malian tradition and boldly international in scope.

Born in Djoliba, Mali, and descended from the royal Keita lineage of the Mandé Empire, Salif’s journey is one of both cultural significance and personal courage. As an albino in a society where albinism is often misunderstood, Salif overcame deep social prejudice to become one of Africa’s most revered voices — an artist who turned adversity into power and music into advocacy.

His music fuses the poetry of the griot, the rhythms of traditional West African instruments like the kora and balafon, and the influence of global genres such as jazz, funk, and pop. Albums like Soro (1987), Moffou (2002), and Un Autre Blanc (2018) are milestones in the evolution of African music, celebrated for their emotional intensity, lyrical beauty, and sonic innovation.

Salif Keita has collaborated with an astonishing range of international artists, from Carlos Santana to Cesária Évora, Youssou N’Dour, and Angélique Kidjo, always maintaining a distinctive style marked by his soul-stirring vocals and unwavering commitment to social justice. His work has earned numerous accolades, including the Victoires de la Musique, Grammys nominations, and international humanitarian honors.

In recent years, Salif has deepened his role as an activist, founding the Salif Keita Global Foundation to advocate for the rights and protection of people with albinism around the world.
