Moreira Chonguica is a celebrated jazz musician, originally from Mozambique. He relocated to Cape Town to further his music studies where he graduated from the University of Cape Town's South African College of Music with a degree in Jazz Performance and an honors degree in Ethnomusicology in 2000. Since his move to Cape Town, Moreira has established an impressive list of credits to his name.

Moreira specializes in contemporary African jazz and world music, a sound he describes as "Afro World Jazz".

Moreira's debut album, The Moreira Project Volume 1 - The Journey was released in 2006 and received an overwhelming response from local and international media. When the album was launched in his home town of Maputo, he donated ZAR10,000 towards renovating the National School of Music which he attended as a youth. Whenever he goes back to Maputo, he makes sure to spend some time at the school conducting workshops. He teaches saxophone and life skills to young aspiring musicians on a regular basis.

Moreira’s debut album firmly established him as an artist. Featured on the album was legendary jazz maestro Najee and it won Moreira a South African Music (SAMA) Award for Best Producer in 2007.

His second album The Moreira Project Volume 2, released in 2008, laid rest to any doubts as to the extent of his talent and saw him scoop two SAMA’s for “Best Contemporary Jazz” and “Best Album Packaging” at the 15th South Africa Music Awards in May 2009.

His latest offering Khanimambo: A tribute to the legends of Mozambique is a mixture of traditional Mozambican sounds, rock, ballads and jazz, featuring ten artists from very varying areas of Mozambique: Zena Bacar - Nampula, Chico António - Maputo, Chico da Conceiçᾶo - Inhambane, Aly Faque - Nampula, Elvira Viegas - Maputo, Júlia Mwito – Capo del Gardo, Wazimbo – Maputo, Xidiminguana – Gaza, Hortêncio Langa – Gaza, and Dilon Djindje – Marracuene near Maputo, with additional commentary by Moisés Mandlate – Maputo.

Moreira met most of these musicians many years ago after listening to them on the old LM radio station and being taken as a boy by his late father to see them perform. In a way this album is a tribute to his father, as it was completed exactly a year after his death.
